Childhood Memories
The memories I have sometimes come back to me from time to time, especially ones centering around my deceased mother. As a young child, I have been dealing with mental health issues such as attention deficit disorder also known as ADHD (Inattentive). We spent a lot of time getting medications adjusted and check-ups. My mother would play squares with me. It was a paper game where we make a grid of dots and you start by making a line between the two dots and each takes a turn making lines to come to a square then you write your initial in the square to take it. One point.
Of course that was when I was old enough to understand the game. Some doctor's offices would have toys for children of ages 3-7 years old. It was a great time and after my appointment I would get a lollipop as a treat sometimes I would get stickers for being brave when I had to get a vaccine. These memories I hold dear. I never complained about having to go to the doctor's office all the time. I wasn't one to complain about these conditions I had. Rather I enjoyed spending time with my mother and being in her presence. She was always with me every step of the way. The music I learned to love was soft rock and alternative rock. Most doctors office in USA play easy tunes to relieve the anxiety of patients. Every time I hear it I would always feel a sense of calm over me.
While I long for the day when going to doctor's office will be a thing that will no longer be remembered. (Isaiah 65:17, NWT) I'm blessing to have a healthy life for the time being. While I have worrisome conditions that make life a little harder, but as of now I know my situation could be worse. I pray not but that is life in this system of things.
Other things that came to mind and bring me joy was thrift shopping. Now keep in mind. We were a family of 5. While my eldest brother was working, my mother had us (my little sister and brother) to take care of. When we entered the store we weren't so interested into the clothes but we would rush to the back of the store where the toys and electronics were. They would sell these bags of toys for a few bucks and they had a variety of toys in them. Mom would let us buy a few of them. 2 per child. I actually got my first TV for my room from this thrift store. It was a black and white General Electric TV.
We didn't have much but boy did we cherish the things we were blessed to have. I grew up being appreciative because we started from nothing but love and that was what we knew. It was what we only knew. Love is what makes a house a home.
